1 in 4 individuals are affected by the loss of a child in either pregnancy or infancy. this loss holds great magnitude whether through stillbirth, miscarriage, SIDS or infant loss and has become a taboo topic to others.
our mission
Baby Steps was created by moms affected or touched by loss. Our mission is to offer support to women and families while honoring their babies, as well as give back to the stillbirth and loss community. For those left behind, we hope to offer support, a safe space for grieving, and make a difference along the way.
We currently fund all baby and infant cremations at St. Joseph's hospital in Tacoma, WA where bostyn was born and St. Elizabeth's hospital in Enumclaw, WA. We provide mold kits to cast baby's hands or feet before they have to say goodbye. We have helped provide headstones and urns for various families. In 2021, we started Mama Boxes- care packages featuring books written by fellow loss moms, a weighted bear and self care items.
how we got started
On February 13, 2019, a beautiful baby girl named Bostyn was born. Her parents had gone through all the preparations to welcome their sweet girl- the nursery was ready, then bottles were washed and the carseat was secured in the backseat. It was to their heartbreak to learn that Bostyn's umbilical cord had become knotted in utero and heart had stopped beating. She came into this world stillborn, a perfect baby girl. As we watched her parents struggle to cope with such a tremendous loss, an idea was born.
Bostyn's Beads was created by her parents in hopes to give back support they had received in their loss of Bostyn but it wasn't enough to reach the community they wanted to support. Through their own losses and love for their friends going through the unimaginable, Baby Steps Foundation was created to help support the pain of families going through the loss of a child. While we carry Bostyn at the core of our mission, we hope to honor all our babies lost too soon and reach so many families that need help through this journey.
